The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings apply the same methodology as the World University Rankings to assess research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. However, the weightings are recalibrated to reflect the profile of missions of young universities. We use 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry, and governments. The ranking includes institutions that were founded between 1971 and the present.

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

Shahid Rajaee University is ranked 301–350 in the Young University Rankings 2021 for the first time.
